SPRING WEATHER

WITH INCREASING WINDS

Special forecast for Wellington:— I "North to north-west winds, 'becoming strong and gusty.; Weather fine at first, but cloud- j ing over tomorrow and possibly some light showers. Mild temperatures. North, to north-west winds will-pre-vail to the south of Kawhia and East Cape and these, according to the forecast issued at noon today, will become strong in and to the south of Cook Strait and will reach gale force in places. Winds elsewhere will be moderate easterlies to northcrlies. The weather will be fine at first in most districts, but will become unsettled in Westlarid and in the far south. Eain will gradually develop in these areas and will extend later to districts with a westerly aspect. Temperatures will be milder.

There has been a slight fall in pressure over the southern half of the South Island, but an anticyclone still covers the Dominion with its centre this .morning lying just to the east of the. North Island. A few light and isolated showers have fallen along tho West Coast and in far northern and southern districts, but otherwise the weather has been generally fine and pleasant. Winds have been\northerly to the south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint and have freshened at times. To tho north of thoso points winds have been move variable and only light to moderate. A depression off south-eastern Australia lis tho disturbing factor in the present weather outlook.

Auckland's weather yestorday was mostly fair to cloudy and a light shower fell during the afternoon. Yesterday's easterly breeze had changed by this morning to a light wind from the south-west and skies were clear.

Wellington had another fine and pleasant- day with 8.0 hours of bright sunshine. The wind has been and still is north-westerly in direction and the weather this moruing was continually bright and sunny. Christchurch had a sunny and warm day with a light north-easterly wind. Skies were cloudless this morning.

Clear skies and bright spring weather characterised conditions iv Dunedin yesterday. Tho night however, was cloudy and some light rain fell, the weather this morning being calm and overcast.
