SHEEP OWNERS
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the New Zealand Sheep Owners' and .Farmers' Federation in AVellington yesterday was attended by delegates from Poverty Bay, East Coast, Hawke's Bay, Wanganui, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago,' and Southland. " '
On the motion of Mr. John McKenzie, seconded by Mr. C. H. Williams, Mr. H. D. Acland was unanimously re-elected president.
On the motion of Mr. Bernard Tripp, seconded by Mr. L. H. McLean,.Mr. J. S. Jessep was re-elected vice-president.
Mr. E. Hay (Canterbury). was re-elected treasurer,--and Mr. A., A. MeKellar, F.P.A.N.Z., was appointed auditor.
The following remit from Gisborne, moved-by Mr. C." H. Williams and seconded by.Mr.L. H. McLean, was carried: "That the Meat Export Control Board be requested to arrange for a research institute to be financed and controlled by the meat industry through the Meat Board.".
Other motions carried were:— "That the Meat Board ber requested to set up a super or chiller grade of beef for export." ■ ' ■
"That the unemployment levy on incomes be placed on the same basis as the income tax."
"That this/meeting, definitely opposes the Scientific ■■ 'and Industrial Research Amendment Bill."
Reference was made to possible injustice being done to landholders under the proposed Mining Act amendment, and the following resolution was. carried: "That this meeting protests against the provisions ol the Mining Act. amendment, which encroaches on the rights of owners of freehold lands." .',.,- ' ';. "' .•■.■'.
