WHEY AND SECONDARY BUTTERS.
Reference was-made in this column on Monday to distribution :of New Zealand whey and second-grade butters. It was also1 stated that sqmel of the inferior butter had been sold in original form as New Zealand butter. In its endeavour to protect the British market for finest and firstgrade butter the Dairy Board made arrangements that inferior butters should not be sold as New Zealand butter. The board is satisfied, "The' Post" is informed, that its action has been in the best interests of the dairy industry, as it has assured itself that no whey or secondary butter has been sold over the retail couuter as "New Zealand" butter. The board is aware, however," that in some cases these butters have been sold as "Empire" butter. To prevent this ■ for the season 1934-35 the board is requiring its London consignee to guarantee that these secondary butters shall not be sold or described either as "New Zealand" or. "Empire" butter.
