FLOGGING ORDERED
ASSAULT AND ROBBER*
SENTENCE AT AUCKLAND

HAMILTON, This Day
Four years' hard labour and a flogging was the sentence imposed upon John Leslie Florance, aged 23, by Mr. Justice Herdman in tho Supreme- Court this morning on several charges involving assault and robbery in the Tirau and Matamata districts.
Florance was found guilty on Thurs
His Honour described the case as one of tho worst he had had to deal with for some time, and pointed out that had Rose, the vistim, been struck on another part of the skull the injury might have proved fatal.
