MEN OF KENT

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual general meeting ut the Association of the Men of Kent and Kentish Men was held last night. Dr. C. J. Reakes presided.

In moving the adoption of the balancesheet for the paat year, a report of which has already appeared in "The Post," the chairman said he regretted that the association's activities had been hampreed by insufficient funds and falling membership. He had hesitated during the past difficult years to ask those whom he knew to be financially embarrassed to pay their subscriptions, but he now thought the time was opportune for a drive to got new members.

The vice-president (Mr. J. K. Tullet) suggested that as many members as possible should be present at the first meeting of the newly-formed Master-ton branch. It was, he said, very satisfactory to see another branch in the North' Island, and they should do all they could to help it.

The following officers were re-elected: — Patron, Sir William Hall-Jones, K.C.M.G.; president, Dr. 0. ,T. Reakes, C.8.E.; vicepresident, Mr. J. E. Tullet; liou. secretary and treasurer, Sir. R. A. Large.

The secretary's report on the people assisted by the association on behalf of the Kent Empire Settlement League was received.

The chairman said that the question of a social evening had been engaging the council's attention. The question for the meeting.to decide was what form should the evening take. Sir. Tullct suggested that members should hand in to the secretary the names'of all Kentish people they knew to be in Wellington, and he could issue invitations to them as guests of the , association to a social evening. As the association was now in a fairly satisfactory financial condition, he said, there should be no difficulty in meeting expenses. It .was decided to adopt the suggestion, and the date was fixed as in the last week of September.

The meeting terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to tho secretary (Mr. Large)- for the very able way in which lie had carried out his duties.
