TALLOW AND HEMP.

The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated August 25, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. London:— Tallow.—Poor demand at auction; 1402 casks offered of which 222 sold at from 6d to Is per cwt advance on tho prices ruling at last auctions. Present spot quotations are:—Mutton, fine 225, fair to good 18s Od to 21s, dark to dull 16s to 16s 6d; beef, sweet and/or mixed 19s to 20s, fair to good 17s to ISs 6d, dark to dull 15s 6d to 16s 6d; mixed, fair to good 17s to ISs Od, dark to dull 15s to 16s 6d; gut, etc., 15s to IGs 6d. Hemp.—Manila: Market quiet but steady. "X" grade for September-Novem-ber shipment valued at £12 15s. -Sisal: Market quiet and easier. August-October shipment . quoted sellers at £13 17s 6d. October-December shipment sold at £14. New Zealand: Market dull and unchanged with no first-hand sales reported.
