Twelve thousand spectators were present on a sunny day for tho cricket match betwoen Australia and Sussex at Hove, Brighton. Tlio teams were:—

Australia.—Bradman, Ponsford, Kippax. Darling, Brown, Chipperfield, Barnott, MeCabc, O'Reilly, Ebeling, Fleet-wood-Smith. Sussex.—Melville, John and James Langridge, J. and H. Parks, Cook, Bowley, Pearce, Eaton, Tate, Cornford. Susses, captained by Melville, _ had first use of a comfortably paced wicket. The game opened quietly. John Langridge occupied 50 minutes in scoring nine. Fleetwood-Smith, bowling over the wicket, beat him all the way when the total was 44 and then sent back Melville. Parks cut cleverly and reached 50 out of 73 in onr hour and a half. After lunch Parks became Fleetwood-Smith's third victim. Ho hit six 4's. Fleetwood-Sniith bowled for two hours unchanged. Cook batted forcefully, making an excellent 50 in 85 minutes. Then O'Eeilly had him well caught at deep rnid-off. Langridgo gave Chipperfield a hot chance at first slip off Ebeling. . , After tea Fleetwood-Smith dismissed Harry Parks, after which play was tedious, 200 runs taking 225 minutes. Then Langridgo was out after failing properly to time a ball. He batted 140 minutes for seven 4's. Bowlcy was just beginning to show form when' he became FleetwoodSmith's fifth victim. Eaton was rather needlessly run out in discounting Bradman 's alacrity. Tate made it a good day for Sussex, tho wicket adding 70 in 40 minutes. Ho hit eight 4's. One of Chipperfield'a overs cost 19, including a sixer by Pcaree. SUSSEX. "First Innings.
