RUGBY FOOTBALL MATCHES

WELLINGTON TEAMS SUCCESSFUL

BLEDISLOE CUP TO AUSTRALIA

Wellington had two representative Rugby football teams in the field on Saturday afternoon, one meeting the Taranaki touring team at Athletic Park and the other meeting a Taranaki learn at New Plymouth. A double success was scored by Wellington, the team at home having a strenuous battlo under most uninviting conditions, and the team on tour giving a spectacular display to win through in a fairly high-scoring match. The southerly gale ruined the game at Athletic Park, play being largely confined to the forwards, Wellington had a first-spell advantage, and this, with a determined display against odds in the second spell, carried the local representatives to a well-earned win. Other local matches included the final series in the senior A grade second division championship, which was won by Petone. New Zealand's representatives made a bold Md to retain possession of the Bledisloe Cup, but the winning of the second Test with Australia at Sydney was just beyond them. However, they played Australia to a creditable draw in a hard-fought game.
