Following President Roosevelt's announcement on the nationalisation of. silver in the Vnitcd Htates at 50.01 cents* per fine ounce, American dollar* displayed weakness in tho London, foreign exchango market, the. rat» moving 2} cents-in favour of sterling.
On the Stock Exchange in anticipation of American silver purchases abroad, there was activity in silver shares. Tho tone generally in tha markets was firm. British funds 'further advanced. Gold-mining shares were in demand
