BETTER DEMAND FOR BEEF

.The "Bank 'of, Xew Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business'this week:—The market for wethers is rather easier. There is a steady trado in" ewes, at rather better values. Trade in lambs is irregular; there is a moderate demand. There is a little better demand for beef. Wethers, light Slid .to u94d per' lb, heavy i'Ad to sd; ewes, 3Vid to 4%d; lambs, 2's 7d to 7!4d, S's 094 dto 6 7-Sd, 4's 6 3-Sd 'to 6%d, seconds C94d to 7 3-8 d; ox, hinds. 3d to SVtd, fores 2d to. ;2%d." '

Levin- and Co., Ltd., have received the following, cable from their London agents, dated August ' 10:— North Island frozen meat quotations: Down lambs 28/361b 7 3-8 d per lb,. 36,'421b 7d; crossbred lambs, 28/361b 7 1-Sd, 36/421b 6%d, second quality, average 30/311b, 6 7-8 d; wethers, under 481b 5%d, 48/561b 5 3-Bd. 56/641b 3%d, 64/721b 5 l-8d; ewes, rntder 481b 4%d, 48/561b 3 7-Sd, -56/641b 3%d, C4/721b 3%d; New Zealand prime ox beef, 160/2201b 2 5-Bd. . Compared with last week's quotations, lamb is unchanged with the exception of second quality, which is l-8d per !b lower; wethers, 48/sGlb l-8d per lb lower; ewes, C4/721b l-8d per lb higher; prime ox beef 1-Sd per 'lb- higher; others unchanged. The markdt is steady.
