ACCOUNTANT STUDENTS
1 On Tuesday evening the Wellington Accountant Students' Society held its annual public speaking competition for the trophy, donated by Mr. Ernest W. Hunt. The rules of the competition provide that each competitor shall read a paper on an accountancy subject, answer any questions that the audience may ask in connection with that subject, and deliver a short impromptu speech. The judge, Mr. Will Appleton, commented on the high standard of all the speeches, and stated that he had experienced some difficulty in placing the various competitors. The following speakers took part in the contest and the subjects of their papers are shown in .parentheses:—Mr. R. Gaustad ("Contracts in Restraint of Trade"); Mr. W. R. Mathieson ("Indexing and Filing Correspondence"); "Mr. J. S. Osborne ("Insurance oil the Lives of Minors"); Mr. L. Withy ("Statutory Land Charges, with particular reference to Rutes"); Mr. D. K. Carey. ("Minimum Subscription for Shares").
