KINDERGARTEN FILMS

MANY HAPPY CHILDREN

An enjoyable part of the programme at Taranaki Street Kindergarten last evening was the showing of films of the little ones sit their "play-chools" and also out at the Health. Camp.

Dr. Gibb was responsible for the Wellington pictures and those of the camp, and they were immensely appreciated. They showed the little ones at plasticine work, drawing, assembling-in the morning, greeting. the . teachers politely, having prayers, playing in sandpits, riding hobby-horsos, playing simple and enjoyable games, having meals at their pretty little tables, |"cleaning-up," and finally going home —at the end of a thoroughly happy morning. AU present wero~i impressed with the bright and happy little, faces, and the fact .that tap sliy>lookin|; ones (perhaps newly, come), "were,' with the students, receivingi special care. The camp pictures were :.just .?&& impressive from the point of view of health, upbuilding," 'and'"""'■happiness [assured.....-..,. _ ~,: . :..:-... ~._-.,^ .;.:.,._..< ..;.,.

Auckland films were also shown, arid were also most interesting, showing the fine buildings and . beautiful surroundings they are fortunate in having in ( the "Queen City," and, perhaps, raising the hope in many minds in Wellington that in the future some will be found to house the kindergartens as beautifully an£ suitably here; Wonders have been dono in Wellington with the material availablo, and the work does not suffer, but as it spreads more accommodation will certainly be needed. A quaint little touch in the Auckland picture gave much amusement. The letterpress shown was to tho effect that " Children Learn Good Manners at Table," and a charming picture appeared of little happy people' round a table sitting and eating with groat propriety. But a very small girl was not satisfied that her plate was as clean as she liked, so she turned up her little skirt and wiped it on her diminutive undies, quite unconscious that tho camera was registering her action! This "brought down tho house," and -no doubt was received with as much joy in Auckland. The latter pictures also showed some delightful scenes of the young artists at work, for the sense of form and colour is developed always where talent and interest is shown, and tlw Bhy pride on the little faces was charming as they realised that they were chosen to be taken at their happy work. The evening was a most enjoyable one, and, with'bright fires and flowers, it was hard to Tealise the bleak coldness of out-of-doors.
