A ROOF COLLAPSES
BLOCKS OF ICE IN A BAY

AUCKLAND, This Day
A phenomenal fall of hail covered a wide area to tho north of Auckland yesterday afternoon. It was associated with a sever© electrical storm, and extended from Warkworth to Leigh. Ono of tho roads had hail lying on it to a depth of two foet, whilo tho hills in!the vicinity wero white as if snow had fallen. Tho occurrence was unprecedented in these districts. The valley of a double-gabled housewas completely' filled with hail, tho weight of which caused the roof to collapse, and tho interior was flooded. All traffic on the Matakana-Leigh road was blocked last night, but it was resumed today, though several inches of hail still covered, the road.
This morning in ono bay blocks of ice caused by tho hail washed from the surrounding hillsides were' floating, covering a fairly largo'area. Twenty telephone lines were' thrown out of ' order by lightning fusing the cable boxes. ..' ; ...
