CHURCH MEETING

WADESTOWN PRESBYTERIAN

The report of the Wadestown Presbyterian Church for the eight months ended Juno 30, presented at the recent meeting of the congregation, showed an increase of members to 139 after adding 13 and removing six names. The subsidiary reports showed earnest work in all the church organisations. The minister, the Rev. F. H. Wilkinson, M. A., congratulated the congregation on the fulfilment of' a unanimous resolution of the previous annual meeting, that the whole of the monetary requirements o£ the church should be met, as an act ot worship, by direct giving, without recourse to sales and the like. This had been accomplished by generous giving by envelope and otherwise, and was gratifying alike to minister, session, and managers. The treasurer's report showed that the. financial obligations of the church had been more than met. After paying oil a debit of over £14 from last year, setting aside £20 for maintenance of buildings, and transferring to the new church building fund £29 5s lid, which had been used in the general fund since 1931, that fund was balanced by an anonymous gift of £2 14s 4d. The new church building fund was in credit £52 12s sd, manse debt reduction fund £75 10s 9d (raised almost entirely by the Ladies' Association). To missions £30 Is lid was given, besides parcels. The Ladies' Association had regularly visited the orphanage to render assistance. The envelope treasurer reported an increase ot subscribers to 70, and commended the method* Special votes of thanks were accorded to the minister, session clerk, clerk ot managers, the treasurer and envelope treasurer, the auditor, and to Mrs. U. UStewart on her retirement after over -20 years' service as secretary, treasurer, and president of the Ladies' Association. Besolutions were unanimously passed supporting a more liberal sustenance allowance, and especially to married men, and also the Bible-in-Schools Bill now before the House. _ r The following were re-elected:—Mana-gers, Messrs. Pringle and C. A. Barlow.

The Board of Managers of the Petone Memorial Technical College last evening acknowledged with thanks donations trom the Gear Meat Company, General Motors, Ltd., and the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board. The board also thanked Messrs. Ward and Eawnsley for the donation of an engine and gearbox for a truck.
