ESPERANTO CLUB

The weekly meeting of the Wellington Esperanto Club was held on Tuesday night in the YIM.CA. Mr. Vernon Leek presided over a; good, attendance. Mr. C. IVCooch, the new secretary, announced that, Mr. Geprge Gordon, of Christchurch, had presented to the. club's library a package of twenty-five Esperanto . books, comprising "original, and translated \yorks embracing fiction, philosophy, and science, published in several foreign countries. Mr. J. H. Thomas and Mr. G. Bricc were elected foreign • correspondents on behalf of the cluK After,-, class instruction the second half of the evening was devoted to a special programme , arranged by Misses Marie Leek and ; Thelma Wind. The first item was presented by Miss Coralie Smythson, an amusing original reading entitled "La Arto Se Malgrasigo." Misses /M. Leek arid T.'.Wind followed with' a one-act Esperanto playlet, "La Esperantieto renkontas. :la Skeptikulon. The club's instrumental trio, consisting of Messrs. J. H. T. Thomas (guitar), Nelson Hill: (guitar), and C. T. ■ Cooch (ukelele) presented "Maori Canoe Song," "We'll Build a Little Home," and "Palikiko Blues." This was followed by an amusing Esperanto reading entitled "La Ruza Rivalp,". contributed by Mr. Vernon Leek, after which the orchestra rendered further items. The programme concluded with an original monologue in Esperanto entitled -"La Majstro -de la Kazuo," by Mr. Bertram Potts. It was announced that the next special programme evening would be in the hands of Mr. E. C. Jack, and would be presented on August 21.
