LEVY ON WOOL
INVESTIGATION OF DISEASES
FARMERS' RECOMMENDATIONS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, August 8,
Tho executive of tho North Canterbury branch of tho Farmers' Uuion after a full discussion decided to support the Government Bill providing for a levy on wool to provide a fund for research in relation to sheep and wool. Tho meeting was of the opinion, however, that tho money raised should be used ill the , greater part for tho investigation of sheep diseases and sheep husbandry and not bo confined to wool research. An. amendment to tho Bill to mako this clear was recommended.
It. was also recommended that the levy should be i sixpenco instead of fourpenco a bale, because it was feared that fourpenco a bale would not yield enough for effective work on many problems awaiting solution.
