DIPLOMAS PRESENTED
The legal aspect of entertainment risks and their relation to insurance were dealt with by Mr. W. E. Leicester in an address to the New Zealand Insurance Institute in the Dominion Farmers' Institute last, evening. Mr.- Leicester outlined the various forms of entertainment which existed in early .times, and said it was not until the beginning of the eighteenth century that there was anything in the nature of insurance oil cntertaimeut. He spoke on tho risks attached, to places of amusement, such as theatres, cinemas, etc., and also to those attaching to sports and sports meetings. Several actions for damages brought •by persons who were injured at .theatres and sports gatherings were outlined, and decisions determining the liability for such accidents quoted. Mr. Leicester quoting legal authority to show in what cases tho proprietors or conductors were liable.
I The president, Mr. 11. P. Hopkins, who presided, moved a very hearty vote of thanks to Mr. ■ Leicester, which was carried with applause. Opportunity was taken to present fellowship diplomas of the Incorporated Australian Insurance Institute to Messrs. H. P. Hopkins (Koyal), W. A. Martin (National Mutual), W. E. Arnold and S. Beckingeale (Government Life), .R. H. Rowland (Phoenix), A. V. Shorter (Atlas), A. J. Hyder (Union), L. Monkman (Yorkshire), and W. B. McKenzie (United). Associateship diplomas were presented to Messrs. C. J. McDonald, J. A. Stewart, P. Turner (A.M.P.), V. M. Edgar (Na« tional), J. W. Macdonakl (Government Life), G. A. Taylor (Prudential), 11. F.
