Three women are more directly involved in his life, one his secretary, Rosemary Ames, who secretly loves him and keeps a watchful vigil to protect him i'rom romantic entanglements. She never presumes outwardly to interfere in his business or love affairs, being the faithful aide and obeying his wishes implicitly. Another is a love-struck girl of tender years, Eochelle Hudson, utterly ' lacking in wisdom or discretion, who crashes into his life, determined to win his love at any cost; the third is a gorgeously alluring opera singer, Mona Barrie. On v certain day, he breaks dates witli all three of these varying types of femininity. Some weeks later Eochelle is found dead. Baxter is accused of her
