ADJOURNED MEETINGS OF
SEAMEN

■ There was _ a general hold-up of coastal shipping in Auckland today fol: lowing a refusal by the crews of three Union Company vessels, to take their ships to sea-on Tuesday night. These three ships, the. Hauraki, Waipiata, and Waiinea, were still held up today and the trouble spread to vessels of tho Northern1 Company's fleet, sailings of the Motu, Hauiti, Omana, Pono, and Kawau being postponed. The departure of the Port Whangaroi for Wellington this afternoon was also held up. When the three Union Company ships were held up on Tuesday night the crews informed the masters in each caso that they wished to hold a meeting this morning. They had already been in conference on board the Waipiata that evening. This morning the seamen met at tho Trades Hall, the crews of the Motu, Hauiti, and .Omana attending. Subsequently the masters of the ships were informed that the meeting had been adj6urned until the afternoon. The meeting at 3 o'clock was attended by men from all vessels on New Zealand articles. It wag again adjourned until 9 o'clock tomorrow morning, arid subsequently tho masters received from the men intimation of further delay; it was stated in one quarter that the sonni.cn were waiting for certain information and instructions from Wellington, but that tlleso had not come to hand.
The secretary of the i Auckland branch of the Seamen's Union, Mr. T. F. Anderson, was in Wellington today, but the assistant secretary, seen after the afternoon meeting, said ho was not at liberty to make any statement concerning tho iiosition. ■■
