MORE COLD WEATHER
Although an anticyclone is advancing slowly across tho Tasman Sea in this direction) the passage of depressions both to the north and the south of New Zealand is causing a continuance of what cai* be described only as wintry weather-. The forecast issuod at noon today is foivmoderate to strong southerly -winds which in places will reach gale force. Although in western districts of tho South Island the .weather should be fine, elsewhere; it will still bo unsettled with showers at times, especially along the East Coast of tho North Island and in far southern districts. Snow is likely on high levels, and hail will fall in places.
Although tho depression to,tho south is passing away, that in the north was centred this morning to the iiorth of tho Bay of Plenty. Tho weather, although fine in places, has during the last twentyrfour hours been generally cold, changeable, and showery. Iv tho southern part of tlio, South Island conditions h&vobccn very sevcro, and since last night much snow, together with hail in places, has t fallen. Alexandra, in Central Otago, ' reports 13J inches of snow on tho ground, and it was snowing at, 9 a.m. today at Dunedin, Naseby, and Nugget Point. Winds, which. yosterday wero blowing -from some quarter between west and south, are now southerly in direction generally and aro moderate to strong in force.
Auckland had fair to elbudy weather yesterday .with a. light wind from the south-east. Tho weather at 9 a.m. today was cold and dull with a strong southerly wind.
Wellington again enjoyed plenty of sunshine, 6.3 hours being recorded. A' northerly breeze prevailed and freshened during the afternoon. There was a slight frost last night, and just before 9 a.m. today a cold southerly sprang up and the weather became less pleasant. Christchurch had a clear day with a keen north-easterly wind in tho morning. At 9 a.m. today conditions wero overcast and threatening, with a southerly breeze.
Duncdin had calm, fine, and sunny weather yesterday. But a. southerly sot in late 'in tlio afternoon, and rain, with snow on tlio hills, fell during tlio night. A fresh south-westerly wind was blowing, this morning- and wus accompanied by rain and snow.
