RIOTOUS AND CALLAMART

(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day.

Awapuni stables claim a fair representation at the Grand National Sleeting next week, and horses from this centre are: due to leave for Eiccarton tomorrow. L. Knapp is taking Callamart, Riotous,* Esteem, and Square Acre. C. Thomson will ride Callamart and Esteem in their engagements. I. Tucker will be on Riotous and B. H. Mqrris on Square Acre.

Mrs. A. McDonald's team will consist of Blacksmith, Heniy of Navarre, Calydon, and Boudoir. Blacksmith will be ridden by Alan McDonald and Henry of Navarie by W. H. Bowden. Henry of Navarre is> being treated for a puffed near hind leg, but in ,view of the announcement that he is tfc make the trip tho injury cannot be serious. ■■

W". J. Broughton will be back in the saddle at the meeting, and he has been engaged to.iide Limbohm, Timorous, and probably Moatoa. Keith Voitre will be at Riccaiton for the fiift two days and he will then letum for tho Pfikuranga Hunt Meeting. At the Grand National Meeting he will ride Fracas in the Winter Cup, Grand Review,, Mercian Prince, and one of Cuttses' representatives in the Cashmere Plate. The weather was fine but the tracks were very heavy for yesterday's work at Awnpuni, and on the course proper the horses were going well into the toft tuif. Among tho fir&t to work were Riotous (Parkes) and Callamart (C. Thomson), the pair being given a round over the steeplechase fences, which were on the outside of the course proper. They were together all the way and gave a pleasing exhibition 'of clean jumping, the only blemish, if it could be clashed as a blemish, being the rapping of the hencoop by Callamart. , Square Acre sprinted six furlong's and was not troubled to cut out the distance j in lmin 29sec, the flags being in the middle !of the course. It was a pleasing .siillop I and Square Acre should be in good nick 1 for his Riccarton- engagements. , Esteem (W. J. Broughton) hit out freely over a mile and was' clocked to complete the distance in lmin 50sec. He showed a liking lor his work and pulled up well. Cai'dhii (B. Flowers), winuer of the ]!i<ldiford Steeplechase at the Raugitikci Hunt Meeting, and The Storm Wind (C. Thomson) weie galloped a mile, cutting , out the last six furlongs in lmin 30.-cc. Cardhu was always the pacemaker, and .although The Storm Wind came at him love rthe last bit Cardhu finished easily on the bit to retain his advantage. Cardhu belongs to Mr. K. McK. Duncan, and, as he is possessed of a'good turn of speed and can jump like a stag, he should prove a useful proposition. ! Boudoir (Rac) and Calydon (W. J. Broughton) were sprinted six furlongs, and they went particularly well in the going, their time, lmin 27 3:3 sec, being quite good. Boudoir held a slight lead to the straight, but Calydon then drew level and they- were still together at the post.

Blacksmith (A. , McDonald) Ralloped twice round the hurdle track, jumping four obstacles. He hit out very freely and revelled in his task. The race at the Manawatu Winter .Meeting should have done him a lot of good and he will not be without friends at the Grand National Meeting.' Henry of Navarre, though bandaged, did not appear to be handicapped by tho sore leg,' and he was exercised in tho oval.

: Eerepai (K. Voitre) ;and Rei-eatu were taken round at three-quarter pace and gpcui'ted. the. last two furlongs, both moving: attractively. \ ;. ; -■■•. ■ .'. '■''■
