DROUGHT IN GERMANY
Germany as well as' Britain has been sufforing from drought. The river Elbe, the main waterway tojHamburg, could recently bo crossed on foot at Wittenburg. Tho Rhine has been so low that tho summer timo-tatle for the steamer .service had to be. slightly altered. The service was being maintained, but the low water considerably slowed up-tho trips. This was minimised as far as possible by omitting calls at some of the smaller landing stages.
