THE FAILURE OF CRAPOM
' Tho Italian wonder horse Crapom, by Cranach from Pompea, arrived in England a considerable time before Ascot to run in tho Gold Cup. He was accompanied by the jockey P. Capnoli. On arrival he went into the stable of a.. K. Beedle to have his final gallops on Newmarket Heath. Tho horse is owned by Signor M Ciespi, who, with his brother, is proprietor of the newspaper "Corriere della Sera." Signor Cre&pi felt so confident of his winning that he sacrificed a stake of between £SOOO and £9000, which was his for the running, attached to Milan's Grand Prix on Juno 17. Crapom wintered in Milan and then was sent to Rome, where the weather was warm and lowering owing to the 6irocco. It had its effect on the horse, who seemed to tire, for he ran unplaced in tho Cup behind Felicitation and Thor 11, winner of the French Dorby. Experts were not impressed \uth him iv tho paddock, but tho American entrant, Mate, was greatly admired. Sans Souci 111, a four-year-old horso by Sansovino, also owned by Signor Crespi, "accompanied Crapom to the post as pacemaker.
