MASTERTON, Thia Day. Reviewing all phases of the year's work, Mr. AY. Howard Booth, president of the Carterton Racing Club, speaking at the annual meeting, expressed pleasure that tlxo club had, made a better showing last ..season' t than- the previous. The year's working showed a
loss of £16 lSs'4d; as conipareg With a loss in the previous year of ,£.122 2s 3d. Mr. Booth referred to the burden of taxation,-which was making a heavy toll on -clubs. No doubt steps would, and muSt, betaken to reduce it. The following officers "were elected:-— Patron, the Hon. A. D. MeLeod, M.P.; president, Mr. W. Howard Booth; vice-piesideuts, Messrs. C. Beid and L. H. Smart; hon. treasurer, Mr. : P. B. Knutson; stewards, Messrs. P. Bain, G. H. Eaton, A. C. Feast, K. S. Kerable, G. A. Vincent, C. Jensen, A. E. Booth, W. C. Deller, J. C. Harp, E. J. Matson, V. L. Bobinson, and A. C. Tucker; auditor, Mr. B. J. Chapman.
A-recommendation was made to the incoming stewards to consider the question of subsidising transport costs of horses from outside districts to the club's race meeting, and also seriously to consider raising rtUe-.stakes.-for the next meeting.,.: , -: -. -
