The Australians wore black armbands in sympathy with Ponsford because of the death of his father, and the flag was at half-mast. Davies, Duckfleld, Turnbull, Lavis, Smart, V. G. J. Jenkins, Brierly, E. B. K; Glover, Clay, Mercer. Brown la-cked three for his 1000 runs for the tour when Clay got Ms wicket. Kippax revealed attractive form, his late cuts being particularly delightful! With Woodfull he added 100 in 80, minutes. The later played with exceptional freedom, and when he reached 175 joined MeCabe, Ponsford, and Bradman as scores of 1000 runs for the tour.
