VISITORS ENTERTAINED

DALEFIELD SCHOOL TEAMS

In continuation of the scries of intcrschool contests between the Dalefield and Hataitai Schools, the Dalefield representatives were tho guests of Hataitai during the weekend. Weather conditions were somewhat adverse, but failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the contestants.

A hockey game was played at the Pirie Street Reserve, and. resulted in a win for Hataitai by 5 goals, to. 2. Owing to rain, the original programme in respect to the basketball fixture had to be amended, and it was played at the Garrison Hall, where the Hataitai girls shaded their opponents by 12 goals to 1. The scores in both games hardly did Dalefield justice because with a little more luck they would have reduced the margin against them. : • After the games, the teams assembled at tho Hataitai School, where' a substantial luncheon was provided. Occasion was taken to honour a few toasts, which included "The Dalefield School," "Donors of tho Challenge Hockey Stick," "Former Members of tho Staff," and "The Ladies." The Dalefield teams were under the direction, of Miss Hiddleston (head teacher) and Miss Eolls (assistant), and were also accompanied by Mesdamcs Abbott and Knowles, of the Dalefield' ladies; committee. '

•A pleasing feature of the occasion was the attendance of former members of the Hataitai School staff comprising Mrs. A. Fouhy (Te Ore Ore), Messrs: B; : 'Kean (late headmaster Miramar' Sfciuth), C. Robertson (headmaster, BerhampOTe), and A. A. Kirk (Technical College. The hockey game was efficiently controlled by Mr. Bon. Martin, and the basketball match was capably supervised by Misses Hiddleston (Dalefield) and Parker (Hataitai).

The visitors left by. the Wairarapa train on Saturday afternoon and were farewell ed at the station bv their hosts.
