Patients Entertained. A very happy evening was spent at Victoria Hospital last Tuesday .night when a concert was. given in the men's ward by the central branch of the Women's League. Items were rendered by Miss Hazel Martin and her pupils. Other items presented included elocutionary items, tap dancing, pianoforte solos, ballot dancing, Irish, jig, sailors' hornpipe, songs, and fancy dancing. Tlio party was received by Nurse Guiuah (staff nurse). A vote of thanks was passed. ' ' B. and F. Bible Society. Mrs. George Jones presided over a large attendance at the: annual meeting of the Johnsonville branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society. The Methodist Hall, where the meeting was held, was very prettily decorated with spring blooms. The secretary (Mrs. Bodda) reported upon the work done. The organising secretary was accorded (1 hearty welcome, and congratulated the workers upon their result of last yen]', which exceeded that of the previous years. Latest neps from London revealed that the Bible Society was in need, and that unless an increase in income was received this year the beneficent work would be seriously handicapped. She briefly reviewed the world 'work of last' year. '• Eleven fresh languages had been added to the list, making . 678 _in which the Bible Society now sends forth the Scriptures. Tlio following officers were elected for the ensuing', year:— President, Mrs. George Jones; vicepresidents, Mrs. J. F. Martin and. Mrs. A. H. Martin; secretary, Mrs. Bodda; •collectors, Mesdames Mcßride, McChristell, Markle, Martin, King, Wilson, Willetts, A. Cook, Bodda, J. Moore, and Misses Clieeseman and Nancy Martin. It was stated ,that the valuable co-operation of each denomination made the work fully representative. The president and secretary were complimented on their leadership. All present were ■entertained to afternoon tea, for which those- responsible received cordial thanks. ■ A Social Afternoon. , The Wellington Branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union recently held a pleasant social afternoon at their rooms in Constable Street, the hostesses being Mesdames Hirst and Haylock. Mis. Murray presided an,d" Mrs. Perry led the devotional period, and gave a few helpful words on the "Biblo in the Home." Songs wore rendered by Mesdames Stuart and Free, and Miss King supplied the elocutionary items. Some correspondence was read ro the Biblc-in-Schools" demonstration in tho Town Hall this mouth, and tickets were given out. It was decided to make a donation to the hospital for necessities. Arrangements wero completed for the Cradle Koll afternoon to be held on August 30 in order to have the children present while holidays were on. An interesting competition arranged by Mrs. Porte was won by Mrs. Boss. Tea was served and the Benediction pronounced. "Homewood" Ferneries on View. Mr. B. Sutherland's "Homewood" ferneries and winter garden will bo open this evening from 6,until' 10 o'clock. The grounds ■will be illuminated and the fountains will be playing. There will be a small admission charge in aid of the Free Ambulance. Details are given in an advertisement.'
