HOUSES RANSACKED.
NEWTOWN AND KARORI
Detectives .are investigating the activities of a thief or .thieves' who enter houses which are left unoccupied between 'the hours of 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. . Some residences in the Newtown district were ransacked on Friday night, and fivo similar instances were reported as having occurred in Karori on Saturday night. The'houses visited in the latter suburb were those of Mr. ■ E-.:-N. Bromley, in Cook Street; Mr. W. G. 'Eossj■ in-.Shirley-^'Street;-'Mr.■ E. H. Lawnyinrßraithwajte. Street; Mr. A. F. Palmer, in Porisbnby Road; and Mr. Southward, also in- Pbnsoiiby Road. A sum of £5 was stolen, from Mr. Ross's house : , and Mr. Palmer lost 12s;
