VALUELESS CHEQUE
-■■■■' GUILT ADMITTED Charged before Sir. E. Page, S.M., in the "Magistrate's Court today with obtaining £3 2s from William Leonard Fantham by means of a valueless cheque, Xiels Thorvald Nielsen, aged 38, pleaded guilty, aud was admitted .to "probation for a period o£ twelve months. Detective-Sergeant Revell said that prior to June the accused was secretary of- the Norsewood branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. On June 17 he came to Wellington bringing with him a cheque book belonging to the party. He booked in at the Salvation &nny Hostel, and on June 22 he presented a cheque for £4 in 'payment, for .bis ..board,..receiving. £3 2s in change. The cheque was valueless. The accused's explanation was that he was desperate at the time and that he wanted to bring his wife and four children to Wellington. '■■■-.. The detective-sergeant said that the Probation Officer recommended probation: • The accused is to make restitution.
