INTERESTING DISPUTE

NELSON, July 16.
An unusual and difficult position for the Nelson Education Board has arisen at the A.lesander Eiyer, where no school is being held'at the present time, the nxjning company claiming the school for accommodation for its men.. The land, on which the school was built is orpwn: land,--AVhich";* is leased to Alexander Mines, Ltd. When the lnining Settlement grew up .the company supplied.'material for the men to'erect a sch'obl building. The. Education Board Was invited to the . opening: function Tiyhen-it-was intended'to hand over the school offieiallylto the board. Unfortunately the -date •of .the function was altered - and tho board representatives were iinable to attend.

, The board-objects to the school being used for other than" educational; purposes, and. fears that even if the point in'dispute is settled for this occasion the same position. may arise-in the future. : Consequently, on the motion of: Mr- Scantlebury,1 the board passed a. resolution/at, its 'meeting^ today objecting to the' company's application being granted; declaring; the.- site a residence area, and asking for the area to be set aside for; the schol'site.
