WORK FOR BOYS

HELP FROM THE BOARD

PENROSE STATION CAMP

Satisfaction with the work being done by local organisations to place youths and boys in employment was expressed by tho Minister of Employment (the Hon. A. Hamilton) this morning. ,Tlio Unemployment Board, said tho Minister, was always ready to assist boys who were placed in -work, and although there had been numerous complaints about the lack of assistance given to boys and- women, the work boing done for them was in some ways more satisfactory than what was being done under the No. 5 scheme.

There was a satisfactory demand for boys who would undertake farm work, !.Mr. Hamilton continued, and in some districts boys were not available for ithe positions offering. However,.farmors wanted boys who knew something about farm work, and the committees in. the main centres were assisting in that direction. Boys from Auckland were being sent to Buakura for traihiing, and there .was a movement in WelI liugton to establish a camp at Penroso station, Master.ton.

_ The Young Men's Christian Association was assisting local committees to place boys and was acting with "the Wellington Boys' Employment Committeo to establish the Penrose camp. The camp had been suggested some time ago, but was not , supported by the Unemployment Board. However, the board was now prepared to assist with the training of boys, and an arrangement to establish the camp would probably be reached.. "
