CHARITY DAY MATCHES

RESULTS GENERALLY AS EXPECTED

Attendances at the series; of Rugby football matches played on Saturday afternoon in ideal weather were in some cases quite good, though a big counter-attraction had its effect. In this Petonc tested Hutt to the full, and it was not until, the closing stages of the game that the championship leaders succeeded in pulling the game out of. the fire with two goals. Poneke encountered strong opposition from University, the difference in the accounts being represented by a penalty goal. Poneke, however, were without the services of some of their leading players. Wellington College Old Boys and Athletic met at Athletic Park, but from a promising beginning the match fell away, there being much patchy play. Marist; and Eastbourne provided a keen game on Newtown Park, Marist winning, though nol: without being extended. Wellington registered a good performance against St. Patrick's College Old Boys. ; The championship position now is that Hutt still lead Wellington College Old Boys by a point, with Poneke and Marist on terms threS more points away. The other teams are out of the. running for the championship. . Indie second division the defeat of Johnsonville by Poneke made the championship position very interesting. , Poneke now have 19 points, Petone and Oriental 18, and Johnsonville 17.
