OBITUARY
DR. G. E. ANSON
Many of the older'residents of Wellington city and country district will hear with deep regret of. the death of Dr. George Edward Anson, which occurred yesterday, at his .residence, '' Sudb'ury,» ' Main Street, Lower .Hutt. Dr. 'Anson, who' was .in liis .S-ith year, had boon in'failing "health for some time. He practised liis profession in Wellington, from IS9I till 1900, was formerly honorary surgeon and consulting surgeon of the Wellington Hospital, and was for 39 years chief medical officer in New Zealand of the A.M.P. Society. -. . . The late Dr. Anson, who was born at Sudbury,' England, was: a son of the Key. J\ Anson, Canon of Windsor..He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, and took the degree of M.A. in 1873. In the following year he came to Melbourne' in the. sailing ship Sobraon, and transhipped for New Zealand by the steamer Albion. He studied farming with Mr. John Marsha)], of Marton, subsequently purchasing a farming property, which he named "Sudbury" after "his English home. Several years later he accepted a mastership on the staff of the Wanganui Collegiate School, and held-that position until 1883, when he returned to-England to study medicine. He took liis M.D. in 1889, and'was for some time a house surgeon at St. Thomas's Hospital, London. The late Dr. Anson is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. 3?. McLean, and three sons, Dr. Cr: P. V. Anson,: of Wellington, Mr. Hugo Alison, musician and composer, and a member of tho teaching: arid examining staff' of the ,Royal Academy of-.Music, and Mr. T; "V. Anson, dentist, Wellington. ; . The funeral service.was held'at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral this ■ iafternoon; and the interment took place at Karori Cemetery.-'-■;'. ■■' - ' ■'■ '
