PRICE PAID FOR EASTON
One English authority states that the price given by Lord Woolayihgton for the French-bred colt Eastoni after -he had run second in the Two Thousand' Guineas was £15,000, not £10,000. It Is generally accepted, however, that the smaller figure was what was given, and at that he was very nearly a cheap horse, for.only Windsor Lad ,beafr him in, the Derby. Easton is attractively bred. He is by Dark Legend from the PhalarisN mare Phaona, who was sent to the United States in 1932. Destination, "' dam of Phaona, was by Desmond from L'Etoile by Isinglass. L'Etoile was a sister to Star Shoot, -who was exported to the United States, where he headed the winning sires' list in 1911, 1912, 1916, 1917, and 1919. She is also the dam of Ecouen, winner of £19.000 in stakes and an outstanding sire in France, getting the winers of 224 flat races and 200 hurdle races and steeplechases.
