LOCAL BODY OFFICERS

MEETING IN THE HUTT

A meeting was held last evening in the Council Chambers, Lower Hutt, ot representatives o£ officers o£ local bodies in the Hutt Valley. All local bodies were represented with the .exception of the Eastbourne Borough Council's staff, whose representatives sent apologies for non-at-tendance because of a council meeting that evening.- A number of members of the Wellington centre of the Local Body Officers' Guild attended, and the president (Mr. J. G. JVlacKenzie) and a member of the executive (Mr. J. Lockie) addressed the meeting on the aims of the guild. The Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. J. W.Andrews) extended a welcome to those attending the meeting. Mr. MacKenzie explained that it was hoped to establish the guild movement all over New Zealand, but it was thought wise to get it Irmly established in one centre first. The movement was founded on the National Local Government Officers' Association of Great Britain, a body of great influence in the Old Country. A number of members were enrolled at the meeting, and others promised to join. Those present promised to explain the aims of the guild to their staff. It was stated that members of the Hut local bodies would probably join the Wellington centre first as members, and later establish a sub-centre in the Hutt.

Supper was provided by Mr. Andrews, who acted as host during the evening. ■
