HEAVY EXCESS EXPORTS

The Customs Department's return of external trade for New Zealand for the period January 1 to May 31 shows a continuance of the substantial excess of values of exports over imports. The returns for the five mouths are as follows:—

The recorded'values of imports for the periods dealt with are roughly between £8,600,000 and £9,800,000; those for 1934 showing an increase over last year of £1,200,000.

Specie returns for the five months are:— Exports £388,000, and imports £532,000.
