FURNITURE WORKERS
AGREEMENT- REACHED
Agreement was reached yesterday in the Wellington furniture trades industrial dispute which arose as the result of an application made by the New Zealand Federated Furniture Trades Industrial Association ot Workers in respect to wages, hours, of ,woik, and other conditions of employment of upholsterers and french polishers engaged in these brandies of the furniture industry by a number of shipping companies in more than one district.
The workers were represented by the following assessors: —Mr. J. Ferguson (Wellington), Mr. W. Heathwaite (Auckland). Mr. A. Bixon (Auckland), Mr. D. K. Kennedy (Wellington), .Mr. S. H. Thomas (Dimedin), Mr. A. H. Scales (Christchureh), Mr. 11. Garters (Christ-chm-cli). The employers' representatives were Messrs. W. Cr. Smith, IX Jainieson, G. G. Md'arlanc, and G. 11. Xorman (all of Wellington).
The rates of wages and general conditions are to remain very much the same as in the present award, and will form the basis of an industrial agreement which will be in operation for six months. '
