At last.-.night's, -meeting of .the Oily Council, Councillor W. Duncan moved:-- ---" Hhat • the.- following resolution passed by the Wellington .City, Council on March U 1934, be rescinded, viz.: That the debt owing; by.the Wellington Provincial Lawh lehms ;■ Association for. the ' construction ot courts at Miramar by the council be 'romppunded by payment of £100 l>y the association.

Councillor'.Duncan said that after going through^ the -accounts, the City Treasurer did not •recommend that the debt be viped off. Could they legally wipe it off? The association was living ou the council: it had been a ease of bluff for years, and the councU had been well hoodwinked. He wished to send back the motion, because the reserves, committee'would bring down a proposal-that would satisfy everybody. Councillor W.'-J. Gaudin seconded the motion. He did not see why they should be busf-led with a decision- It would be only fair.to wait until the whole thing was reconsidered. He could not see why the .council, should go against the City Solicitor's decision.

After-discussion, the motion was defeated by 7 votes to 5. ;
