RAILWAY GRIEVANCES
Mr. T. E. Coates, president of the Greyraouth Jockey Club, interviewed Mr. G. H. Mackley, general manager of railways, when the latter was '< in Greymonth last week, and requested that the fare to Omoto racecourse for race meetings be reduced from Is 6d to fld.
Mr. Coates pointed put that for Sunday schpol and. other, picnics at the racecourse the fare was. only 4d, and toKaiata it was only 6d. While it was evident that by the charge of Is 6d good revenue was being made out of these race trains, they would be patronised to a greater extent if fares were reduced. ■
The poor accommodation for trainers and jockeys in horse boxes for transport" ing horses by rail was also pointed out,' it being suggested that a big improve* ment_ could be effected in' the lighting therein. A request was also made that an improvement be made in the approach to the Omoto racecourse, as visibility was bad.
