ELLERSLIE GALLOPS

AUCKLAND, This Day.

The final gallops for the Great Northern Meeting at Ellerslie were held in fine weather. The No. 1 grass track was in. use, and considering the going, which was holding, some-, good times-were recorded. The /best efforts on the flat were those of. Gay Broney, Chief. Cook, Imamint, Supreme Court, Cadland, Leo Colossus, Curie, Rebel Star, and View Halloo. Among the jumpers .Callamart, Emancipation, . Imperial Prince,' Speakeasy, and Biform impressed most.

On the No. 1 grass track-Imamint, who had a bit of speed on when she jumped away at the half-mile post, ran home in 50 2-ssec. She was running on solidly at the finish.

Horowhenua and Wee Musk got a two lengths' break on Supreme- Court at the half-mile post, but he beat them home in 49 2-ssec. Horowhenua took 50 l-ssec.

The best' effort of the morning over six furlongs was credited to Gay Broney, who beat Hushing by less than a length. Gay Broney ran the first three furlongs in 38 l-ssec, and the full distance in lmin 17 l-ssec. '

Lack and Red Rufus, after doing the first three furlongs in 40sec, finished sis furlongs in lmin 20sec. Lack was slightly in front, though Bed Eufus was finishing on nicely.

Cadland registered 38 2-ssec for the first three furlongs and came:home in lmin 18see.

Jayson was sent a round- in lmin 58 l-ssee, the last seven furlongs of which were covered in lmin. 36 l-ssee and the final half-mile in 54sec. Jayson was running on strongly :at the end. • . ■

Lord Val was given ■ an. easy task over a round, which was done in 2min 2 2-ssec. The last seven furlongs were covered in lmin 38sec and the final half-mile in 54 4-ssec.

Copyist ran six furlongs in lmin 22 l-ssec, and could have done much better. ' . ' '

Hunting Jay was slightly in front of Black Songster and Grand.Sport after six furlongs covered in lmin 19 3-oseo. Leo Colossus beat Charsong by sev-

era! lengths over half a mile run in 50 l-ssec. He hit out very freely. Scarlet Bambler was a shade in front of Monanui after five furlongs covered in lmin 6sec. Both ,shaped well. Curie had Solomon as a companion over five furlongs, and after taking 25 3-ssee for the first two, beat him home in lmin 4sec.

Thespis did steady work over a round, the last half-mile in 54sec. ;

The jumpers Pahu and Tudor were timed to run seven furlongs in .lmin 36 3-ssec, the last six taking lmin 22sec. .Catoma, Silent Bill, and. Count Lendroff' set out over a round, Catoma finishing about six lengths ahead of Silent Bill, in lmin 56 4-ssec, the last half-mile taking 53 4-ssec.

Prince Colossus and Pango were given a similar task, Prince Colossus finishing half a length ahead in lmin 56 4-5 sec, the final half-mile taking 55 4-5 sec. '. .

West Tor easily beat Aramis. He worked freely, but was not timed. First Lap was too good for Conference over six furlongs in lmin 20 4-osec, the last half-mile occupying 51 3-ssec. Rebel Star and Silver Streak sprinted five furlongs in lmin 4 3-ssec. Tiie former was slightly ahead at the finish, but Silver Streak was staying, on. . Billy Boy was just in front of Sriow Prince over a round in 2miii 0 1-osec, the last seven furlongs being done in lmin 39sec. Both horses were-ridden out.

.Hunting Cry reeled off three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. Chief Cook, who worked alone, sprinted half a mile smartly in 50sec . .

Hounslow and Makeup covered a rou.nd in lmin 58sec. '

View Halloo aud Takakua ran a] mile in lmin 46 1-osec, the filial half in. 52 4-osec. View Halloo finished on better.

Wee Pat and Kilmuir were sent over tho four hurdles on the course proper and got through safely in Imin 26 3-osee.

Callamart, Neil, and Hauwai schooled together over five hurdles. All jumped well and there was little between them at the finish. They took 2min 19 1-asec.

' Emancipation "and Valpeen also schooled over four of the fences. Emancipation won by a good margin in Imin 25, l-ssec.

Hakanoa and Werata set out on a similar task, but Werata was pulled up before reaching tho second fence, hav-. ing fractured, his stifle, and he was destroyed. Hakanoa. finished alone in Imin 26 3-ssec. 1

Gold Knight went out with Free Air, but took charge of , his rider and covered two rounds on the inside track before he could be pulled up. The pair later went over' two hurdles, giv-. *n K a good display. Prince of Orange was sent over four hurdles and,jumped carefully, his display not being impressive; '. Speakeasy, Biform, and Eoyal England ,went a round over the steeplechase course. They fenced safely until the brush fence near the mile post, where Eoyal England came to grief. The other pair continued on, giving a good exhibition. Speakeasy's effort was highly satisfactory. ~
