LOWER SAVINGS-BANK INTEREST.
Mr.' C. H. Reading, chairman''of the Commonwealth Bank Board, • 'has announced that the board had 'decided to make a further reduction! of one-quarter of 1 per cent, per annum in the rate, of interest allowed upon savings-bank deposits. The new rates will .apply as from June 1, and will be«K4 per cent, per annum on balances up to'£soo, and 1% per cent.'per annum' on excess of £500 to £1300. The Victorian State' Savings Bank has announced a reduction of 5g per cent1 in the rate of interest on" deposits The new rate of 2% per cent, -will operate from June 1.
