CADLAND GOES GOOD SIX

AUCKLAND, This Day. Beautiful weather prevailed for the semi-final gallops at.Ellerslie this morning. The No. 1 grass track, with poles 10ft out, was in use ■ for fast -work. Although holding the going was better than it has been for the last couple of weeks.' The hurdles were erected on the outside of the course proper, and the steeplechase course was also open. On the No. 1 grass Horowhenua and Versant went six furlongs in lmin 20 3-ssec, the first three in 39 3-ssec. They were about on terms at the finish. Versant had miteh the worst of the weights. Imamint and Karangapai, after running their first two furlongs in 25 3-5 sec, got to the end of five furlongs in lmin 5 l-ssec. Imamint pleased the more. ' Cargen did a round in 2min 3 3-ssee, the last half-mile in 56 3-ssec. The Cornwall Handicap candidates Gayßroney and Hushing went a round in Imin 56 l-ssec, the- last six furlongs in lmin 20 3-ssec, and the final halfmile'in 54 2-ssec. There was not muchbetween them at the finish, but Gay Broney impressed the more. Cadland registered lmin 19 3-ssec for six furlongs, the best of the morning. Copyist did the last five of six furlongs in imin 10 3-ssec, but 'he could have done better. Lord Val, Prince Colossus, Pango, and Catoma in' that order at the conclusion of a round in lmin 54 3-ssee," the last seven furlongs in lmin 32 4-5 sec, and the final half-mile in 53 2-ssec. The best1 effort over half a mile was registered by British Columbia and Bonny, Gay, the pair covering the distance in 50 4-ssec. .They were on terms at'the finish, both shaping nicely., Count Lendroff was sent over four hurdles on the course proper-and got through 'his task in satisfactory manner. Silent Bill, Hauwai, -and Neil were sent over fiye' hurdles*. All fenced safely and there was no,t much between them at the finish. Pahu, Diversion, and Hounslow were sent Qver five' hurdles, iDelrain joining in at ,the second. Diversion got A break early sand was about ten lengths in front along. ,the back, but the others were almost up witbl her at the last fence. .Diversion gave a good display, and Hounslow also fenced in good ptyle. Pahu covered more ground than the others and was staying on best at the finish! He also.gave a first-class jumping display. Makeup, Snow Prince, Town Beauty, Cn,rJaris, ' Callamart, • and .Tudor were sent over a round of the steeplechase course, giving a very fine display of jumping. They finished 'as named. Makeup's showing was very impressive and he had charge practically all the way;. f Snow Prince also put up a good effqrt. Callamart and Tudor were not bustled over the early stages, 'especially Tudor, who was , running along easily throughout. , Tudor's jumping was excellent and' he closed up on tho others" at the finish without any trouble.
