THE CHURCHES OF CHRIST

:•■■-; NELSON, May 28. Fine weather prevailed - over the weekend. On Saturday'night the Cawthron Institute meteorological station recorded 5.1 degrees of frost, and last night 2.0 degrees. In the country districts much colder temperatures were recorded than in the city, as was indicated by the Government' Research Orchard's recordings ; of-14:4 and 11.9 degrees of frost respectively for the two nights at Redwood's Valley. Saturday's Association football results were as follows:—Senior: Celtic 3, V.M.C.A. 2; Athletic Old Boys 8, Thistle 0. Junior: Thistle 4, Athletic 0; T.M.C.A. 7, Celtic 0. Schools: Tahunanui 1, Central 0; Hampden Street 1, Auckland Point 0.
Professor T. H. EasterfieM and hi? son, Mr. T. E. Easterfield, left by this evening's boat for Wellington, en route for England. Mr. Easterfield is entering Cambridge at Clare College, his father's old college, where there are two other New Zealanders in residence^—Messrs: E; S. Duncan, of Nelson.and Mr. Barrel-, of. Masterton. Professor Easterfield - anticipates that he.;mil be iabroad . for "some eight months. . • '~;■■■".■
. The annual district conference of the Churches of Christ of Nelson Vas presided' 'over •by Mr. T.: Bainford, the president.of the^conference. The treasurer's report showed th^ finances to be in- a healthy condition. The reports submitted from all the churches showed that; progress had been made and that-the outlook for the future was bright. Opportunity was taken at the conference of farewelling Mr. and Mrs. Garfleld Todd on the eve of their departure for the missionary fields in Bhodesia.'
