BETTER WEATHER

Today's weather forecast still anticipates an improvement in the weather. Winds, it says, will bo moderate to strong southerlies which will still reach gale force at times in the Cook Strait area, but they will gradually decrease in strength. Further showers are probable in eastern and far northern districts, but conditions should soon improve except in extreme northern and north-eastern districts. Elsewhere : the weather will be fine, but temperatures will be cold and there will probably be many frosts • tonight. Milder temperatures, however, may be expected ■'tomorrow. :

The disturbance to the eastward; which has been responsible for the unpleasant and- boisterous southerly weather along the East Coast districts during the last few days has at last moved further away, and an intense anticyclone now, extends on to the Dominion. Its centre this morning was off the west coast of Otago. The interior of .the country and western districts have had"fair to fine weather, but showers were still falling this morning along the East Coast south of East: Cape, although conditions were a distinct improvement on those prevailing yesterday.

The weather in Christchurch yesterday was again cold and squally.with a strong south-westerly wind. Showers fell during the morning and heavy rain, in the afternaon, the total fall measuring 31 points. At 9 a.m. today the weather was dull, but the wind had decreased considerably in force.

Duneclin had a light south-westerly wind with <dull weather. Light rain foil there both yesterday afternoon and last night, and at 9 a.m. today misty rain.was still falling, the wind then being a very light one from the southwest.
