WELLINGTON BEATS HUTT

The lust o£ the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association's fixtures for the season was played at Mirumar Grounds on Saturday, when two loams choscu from among the 'lower players on the local association's ranking list and including other lower grade players who have won notice during the year met first and seeoud_division teams representing the Hutt Valley Sub-association. Last year the contest between the teams was very close, but this year Wellington had au easy victory over the Hutt Valley lirst team, winning 14 of the 17 matches completed. One double was abandoned when the.score reached S-all in the third set. In the contest between the second teams Wellington rail up an unassailable lead on sets when the last match was left to be played, and at this time were an odd match ahead also. In this contest Wellington won by nine matches to seven. The standard of play was very good. The Hutt Valley has always had a good junior side, and the fact that Wellington was able to beat it so easily says mticli for the advance made by tennis players this season.
