HERE AND THERE
Debutante Dance. A. delightful coming-out dance was given by Mr. and Mrs. David Collins on i'riday evening at Peathcrston for their daughter, Miss Suzanne Collins. The hull was .charmingly decorated with tree ferns and lovely, flowers. Visitors were present from all over-the Wairarupa, Wangnnui, and Wellington. Mr. ami Mrs. Collins received -their guests, Mrs. Collins wearing a dress of cyclamen. Miss Suzanne Collins was in a charming blue and white organdie frock with a matching..sash and also hair band, and she carried a posy of roses. Miss Nancy Martin, who was also a debutante, wore a dress of white lace with pink shoulder spray, and carried a bouquet of roses. Amongst those present were Miss Collins's grandparents, the Hon. W. E. Collins and Mrs. Collins, and Mr. Lionel Abraham (Palmerstou North).. Wellington W.C.T.TJ, Mrs. 11. Chiskolm presided-over the last meeting of the Wellington branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Mrs. Murray conducted the devotional service. Great interest was taken in the subject, of "Bible in Schools," which was discussed. A demonstration will be held soon in favour o±' this movement. Mrs. Chisholm, who represented Jthe branch at tho recent jubiloe convention, gave some of the important features where were discussed there. She spoke of the women's deputation to the.Prime Minister and how well they were received, the matters brought before him being some of the social problems of- the day. The Misses McLcay, two organisers, had six months''leave- granted, 'and will visit the world's convention in Stockholm this year. Tea was- served by Mcsdames Kos's and King. One.new member joined up, and the Benediction closed tho meeting.' Island.Bay School. .' The committee of the Home and School Assoriation^lslandßay, is busy preparing for this season's activities ■with a view to- raising money for the purchase of urgent; school requisites. It has been decided to hold fortnightly dances in St. Hilda's Hall, and weekly card parties in St., Hilda's Clubroom. Tho first, dance and euchre evening will be held on Thursday next. The ladies of the committee have spared no effort to make tho first function a bright and novel one, and all parents and friends will be welcomed. '•'
