PACIFIC RELATIONS
A meeting of the Wellington group of the Institute of Pacific Relations, was held on Friday. Mr. H. F. yon Haast gave a paper on "Peace Machinery in the Pacific," based on one written by Professors Y. Takaki and K. Yokota, presented at the Banff Conference. Having given a summary of the paper, Mr. yon Haast continued ■with a report of the discussions held on the same subject at the British Commonwealth Relations Conference at Toronto. It seemed that at present the League of Nations was so occupied with European difficulties that it was vitally necessary for the Pacific peoples to get together and settle some of their most pressing troubles, said Mr. yon Haast. One of the schemes discussed at Toronto was the rationing of key minerals. Practical work for peace in New Zealand would be in the education of adults and children. In this connection Mr. yon Haast described an excellent scries of radio lectures carried out in Canada.
