United Press Association—By Electric Telel graph—Copyright. ' LONDON, March 29. Messrs. John Brown and Co., Ltd., Clydebank, will resume work on. the new'Cunarder "No. 534" on Tuesday. It is expected that tho vessel will be launched in the autumn. • Most of the shipyard men are at present on the dole. They will be recruited in batches. : '*
No. 53-1 will lie 1013 feet,, in lcngtU with a gross register of about 73,000 tons. She will be propelled by geared turbine engines, which will be sufficiently powerful to give her a speed of about 30 knots. The work still tobe done will provide a considerable amount of employment in the shipyard and in the fitting-out basin. It is estimated that the. order to resume on the ship will give employment to about.3ooo men for several mo:nths in building and engineering work, and that a further 5000 workers will find employment in carrying out the various sub-contracts that remain to be done.
