BUSINESS ON TRAIN

DICTAPHONE FACILITIES

L.N.E.R. INSTALLATION

(From "The Post's" Represenlative.) :"■' LONDON, February 23: - | Business men who travel between | London and Newcastle may now, if they desire, devote the five hours' journey time, in whole. or in part, •to useful work. The "business office" which the-London and North Eastern Eailway Company have installed on two of the principal London-Newcastle expresses will enable them to " carry on" almost as though they ■ were seated at their own desks.

The trains to be equipped with this new travel convenience arc the 8.15 a.m. from Newcastle to London and the return train leaving King's Cross at 5.30 p.m., On these trains special compartments have been reserved in which letters, reports, and similar documents may bo dictated to a dictaphone and transcribed by dictaphonists, while tho train is running, ready for posting during or at the end of the journey. Those who prefer to do so can purchase the dictated cylinders and either take them or have them posted to their own offices for transcription. Dictated matter may be transcribed either on the passenger's own. letter paper or on that provided on the train.

Travellers may engage the special dictating compartment for any time on the journey which suits them best. An expert operator will bo on the train to assist those who arc not familiar with the system of dictation employed, arid additional machines ■■will also bo carried for uso in the passengers' own compartments where circumstances permit. As the- dictaphones will operate from tho train lighting current, which is supplied at 22 volts, they can be "plugged in" in any compartment whero a lamp socket is available.
