PROPOSED BYLAWS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHiySTeHUKCH, March 30. " It is expected by the Prime Minister (the |tt. Hon. G. W. Forbes)' that local bodies will voluntarily . adopt model building bylaws nbw being prepared as if means of minimising earthquake damage. ■' ._.-.. . . . ■ , : Mr. Forbes said today that it would be some time before -the complete scheme of model bylaws .was ready. A portion of the report of the set up after the Napier earthquake had' outlined"some 'general' 'principles on which bylaws could be based; and those general principles had • been brought [into operation by request-of Pahiatua and other towns. ■ ■ ■ . Wellington City-had gone further. A second part of the commission's report had been in greater detail, and: not in .bylaw form, and the Wellington City j Council was at' present adapting this
part of tli'e report so that it could be applied in bylaw form to Wellington. The drafting of" complete building bylaws "would take' some', time/:, afcl nothing could be ..; considered; about, making these bylaws compulsory until the Government was in a position .t-j supply them. Their compulsory application had not yet been,found necessary.. When bylaws were ready, it.was hoped that local bodies would willingly adopt them. : ' : ' - -;
